Have zero tolerance on ragging, CM urged

PNS

In the wake of a ragging-related suicide of a girl student of the BJB Autonomous College here, the Ragging Free Campus Abhiyan (RFCA) has sought CM Naveen Patnaik to have zero tolerance towards the menace.

The forum demanded a discussion on the ragging issues across the State in the ongoing Monsoon session of the Assembly and enactment of an anti-ragging law in line with the ones in other States like TN, AP, Maharashtra, WB, UP and J&K.

It also demanded formation of a State level anti-ragging task force; resuming a 24-hour anti-ragging helpline in Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha Police; besides implementation of various rulings and guidelines like SC Judgment on ragging on February 11, 2009; proposals of Committee on Ragging led by former CBI Director Dr RK Raghaban in 2007 and guidelines by SC in Viswa Jagriti Mission Vs Union Government on May 4, 2001.

The forum said the anti-ragging committee in various educational institutions in the State is neither working effectively nor remaining accountable. Forum convener Tejeswar Parida and co-conveners Mir Ahmed Ali and Nalinikanta Nayak were present.
