The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HARO) on Wednesday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in holy and tourist city of Puri.

The HARO pointed out to the incident near Jagannath Ballabh parking area in Puri on Tuesday where a tourist was injured after being attacked allegedly by some unidentified miscreants.

Such incidents are now on the rise in the tourist capital of Odisha.

HARO chairman JK  MOhanty  said, “As Puri receives the highest number of national and international tourists visiting this holy place throughout the year, most of the time tourists are suffering ill-treatment inside the Jagannath Temple, snatching on the beach by local goons, which creates a negative image in the global market and if this type of law and order situation continuous in Puri then definitely tourist inflow to the State would decrease.”

In view of the rising number of crimes against tourists in Puri the HRAO appealed for intervention of the State Government for issuing necessary directions to the Puri district Collector and Superintendent of Police to improve the law and order situation in the town, particularly for the tourists. It also suggested for action by the Tourist Police.
