As many as 33 people, including women, of the Muslim community have lodged an FIR against one Abdul Rahim, a resident of Kumbharpada in the city, before Sambalpur SP Kanwar Bishal Singh, alleging that he cheated them of about Rs 77 lakh. They mentioned that Karim took money on the promise if taking them to to Hajj, Umrah and Ziarat. He also assured them comfortable air journey and stay in Mecca.
As he didn’t fulfill his promise, they demanded refund of their money umpteen times, but in vein. Finding no other way out, they approached the SP. In response, the SP assured them of an early enquiry and action.
It is learnt that there are also many people in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Rourkela where people have been cheated by Rahim. And they are also coming to lodge complain before the SP.
