Merging Civil Defence Organisation (CDO) with Fire Services will diversify rescuer work,” observed Governor Dr SC Jamir on Sunday. He was inaugurating the 69th Fire Service Day at the Odisha Fire Service Training Institute here.
Dr Jamir said Odisha is prone to almost all kinds of natural disasters. Fire service personnel are pressed into action all the time. However, the proposed gradual interaction of CDO with fire service would enable efforts at disaster mitigation, rescue and relief work more coordinated and meaningful as well as diversified, he added.
He hinted at the State having Fire Stations in each block, with 113 already sanctioned stations to be operational soon and 39 more awaiting Government’s approval. He praised the activities of the State Fire Services.
Dr Jamir released a souvenir and also inaugurated an exhibition on Fire Services. He felicitated Fire Services personnel Dushmant Swain, K Narasingha Rao, Pradip Nayak, Duryodhan Satapathy, Golak Rout, Bholanath Biswal and Mayadhar Sahoo for their exemplary performances.
The Governor also witnessed the mock rescue operations carried out by daredevil firemen in case of fires in oil tankers, high-rise buildings, hospitals, rural areas and other places.
