The country would have a unified market for goods and services and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would be upped by 2 per cent following implementation of the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, viewed experts who attended a workshop on GST held here on Wednesday.

The workshop was organised for MlAs ahead of the State Assembly’s special session to be held on Thursday and Friday.

It may be noted that a special session of the Assembly has been convened on May 18 and 19 to deliberate the proposed GST Bill.

“We hope that the country’s GDP will increase by 2 per cent following GST implementation. We are sure that it would benefit both the consumers and the business community and help the economy to grow,” said National Academy of Customs Excise and Narcotics (NACEN) Director General and GST expert PK Das.

Stating that the GST would not apply to crude and high speed diesel, he said, “Small countries are adopting simple tax system which attracts business community. By implementing the proposed GST we can also create a better environment for business.”

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the uniform tax system across the country would benefit the customers.
