While the Union Government has taken various measures to enhance communication facilities within the country, the indefinite closure of the evening counter of the General Post Office (GPO) here is causing untold hardships to city denizens.
It has caused a great inconvenience to the people and particularly for those who want to correspond or send some important letters or documents at the end of the day after office hours. The reason for closure of the evening counter still remains a mystery.
As pointed out by an eminent city resident, Ramdas Ray, everyone is now compelled to go the Railway Mail Service (RMS) counter at the city railway station which is comparatively small and always overcrowded. The city denizens have sought the Union Ministry of Communications intervention for restoring evening service at the GPO counter immediately which is a necessity in a Smart City like Bhubaneswar.
