The State Government would request the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) to accord permission to the Biju Patnaik Homoeopathy Medical College, Brahmpur for admissions into BHMS seats for the current year.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held under chairmanship of MlA Ramesh Chandra Chyaupatnaik in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Ayush Director Basudev Bahinipati, Health and Family Welfare Department Additional Secretay Ajit Mishra, Chief Medical Officer Pramod Mohapatra, college Principal Dr Nibedita Das, Students’ Union Advisor Dr BN Mohanty, president Gopal Krushna Padhy and Secretary Tulsi Narayan Behera were present, among others.
It was also decided that steps would be taken for filling up of all vacant posts in the college. Besides, an indoor department would be opened in 10 days’ time. The CMO would visit the college to look into developmental issues soon.
It may be noted that student unrest started surfacing in the college after the CCH denied giving permission for admission into BHMS seats for the current year citing infrastructure and staff deficiencies as reasons.
In protest, students have been sitting on a relay hunger strike for the last four days after submitting a 7-point charter of demands before the Government.
