Even as the State needs about 5 lakh houses for poor people living in urban areas, the Union government has given only 27,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The State Government is making a plan to meet the need of rest 4.73 lakh houses.

Housing and Urban Development and Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pratap Jena stated this while reviewing Housing, Jaga Mission and drinking water programmes at the Lok Seva Bhawan here on Wednesday.

It was revealed that a total of 51,000 slum dwellers have so far been given land pattas under the Jaga Mission and a target has been set to provide land patta to 25,000 people by March 2020. While this plan is not meant for municipal corporations, plans afoot to provide lands to urban poor in five MCs in the State.

“While there is a need of nearly 3.90 lakh houses for slum dwellers in five municipal corporations, responsibilities have been given to State House Board, BDA and CDA like authorities. They have been asked to prepare a master plan by March 2020,” said Jena.

It was also revealed that works have started to provide drinking water to 5 lakh families in urban areas by March next year. For this, a total of 677 projects were undertaken and, as of now, 550 have been completed.

Jena also directed departmental officers to complete all projects going on under the AMRUT Yojana and DMF funds on time.
