Students of the Nabarangpur College held agitation pressing for converting the 45-year-old aided college to a Government institution.
The students boycotted classes and took out a huge rally to main road blocked the NH-26 in front of the Maa Bhandara Gharani temple. later they held dharana near Madhu Sudan Park.
“Our longstanding demand for Government status to the oldest college of district has fallen on deaf ear of the Government,” the students lamented.
They alleged that on repeated demands from various quarters for converting the college into a Government college, the authorities have not shown any eagerness although they have promised of taking positive steps earlier. Several Ministers, MPs, and MlAs during various college programmes have assured positively, they said.
