Govt pleads helpless as potato sells at Rs 18

PNS

While consumers have turned to be a worried lot for skyrocketing of potato price even during the current harvest period, the State Government seems to have remained callous to plan out a solution to the problem.

Usually, potato is sold at lower prices during the harvest period. But the price of the tuber has skyrocketed this year and is now selling at Rs 18 per kg.

However, Supplies Department Deputy Director Pravakar Rout told mediapersons here on Fridaythat the price would remain on higher side for at least three to four months more before coming down gradually.

“This year, the price has gone up due to low production and will decrease gradually after three-four months,” he said.

It may be noted that the Government has introduced a Potato Mission in order to boost potato production and regulate its prices to help consumers. The State has never produced the required quantum to meet the demand.
