The State Government has hiked the basic salary of Block Grant school teachers

by 25 per cent as per the 2013 grant-in-aid (GIA) provisions.

School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Tuesday said the hike would be on the salary drawn as on May 31, 2016 and would be applicable retrospectively from June 1, 2016.

The Government also made provisions for an annual increase of 3 per cent in the basic salary, added the Minister.

This increase would benefit a total of around 31,500 teachers and employees of 3,701 schools, including upper primary, Sanskrit Tolls and Madrasas.

Moreover, the Government also launched a social security scheme for the teachers under which Rs2 lakh compensation would be paid to teachers’ families in case of death during service while Rs1.5 lakh compensation would be awarded in case of disability during service.

But the teachers’ body rejected the Government’s offer saying that they were cheated.

“We will not cooperate in the ensuing panchayat elections. We are demanding full GIA and the Government had assured us,” said Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra, secretary, State Block Grant Secondary School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association.
