While the Executive Committee of the Medical Council of India (MCI) is meeting on Friday to consider the transfer of the Kalahandi Sardar Rajas Medical College students to two Government and three private teaching hospitals in the State as per the order of the Orissa High Court, some review petitions were filed in the HC on Thursday to reexamine its order passed on November 18.
At least two students each from the Burla and Berhampur-based Government colleges and one student from dental wing of the SCB Medical College here moved the High Court seeking to be interveners in the batch of pending cases currently adjudicated by a Bench of Justices Indrajit Mahanti and DP Choudhury.
“The medicos of Burla and Berhampur in their petitions have objected to transfer of students of the default medical college to their colleges saying they are ranked much below in the AIPMT merit list”, informed their counsel Ashok Mohapatra adding that one student from dental college in Cuttack has contested the HC order alleging disparity.
Considering the future of the medicos in the default medical college, the High Court had ordered transfer of the students as an one-time measure after expressing anguish that neither the governments in State and Centre and nor the MCI was coming forward to protect the interest of the 124 medicos, who are suffering for last five months.
