Govt chhatua seized from grocery shop

PNS

More than eight quintals of Chhatua supposed to be distributed under ICDS programmes was found in grocery shop of ward No-1 at Nadipada of Bargarh here.

DSWO Nalinee Balabantarai with departmental officials raided the shop after getting allegations in this regard on Tuesday. The team seized the chhatua packets and sent samples for quality test.

Notably, the issue of black-marketing of Government chhatua was raised in the Assembly recently and the opposition Congress and BJP members had severely criticised the State Government. They had also attacked the Government on distribution of low-quality chhatua in Anganwadi centres under the ICDS in the State.

The members had alleged that the SHGs having nexus with BJD leaders and officials were distributing chhatua of very low quality in violation of norms.

More than 32 to 36 chhatua centres are run by the Anganwadi centres in Bargarh district. The former DSWO Bargarh faced allegations for the irregularities but no action against her was taken, said a member of the Nagarika Committee, Bargarh.
