Govt aid eludes deserted woman, siblings

SRIKUMAR MAHANTA

In a glaring example of gross administrative neglect, help has eluded a woman, deserted by her husband, and two differently-abled siblings.

Gitanjali Dash (45) of lupursingha village in lachhipur gram panchayat of Subarnapur district had married Binod Dash before 14 years. Binod Dash deserted Gitanjali after the birth of a daughter named Ankita Dash (13).

From that day Gitanjali has been staying in her father Sambhu Prasad Guru’s house. To make matters worse, a former teacher Sambu has two differently-abled daughters, Bidyalata (43) and Saudamini, who are spinsters and staying with him.

But despite possessing handicapped certificates, Government facilities like ration cards, IAY houses have not been provided to them though they have run from pillar to post to avail them from the panchayat to district level. Further on February 3, 2016 Gitanjali had approached the district Collector and applied for a ration card.

Subsequently, the Subarnapur Sub-Collector in letter no- 1343, on February 3, 2016 has ordered the BDO to look into the matter.

However, nearly after one year, the nonchalant BDO has slept over the matter and help has still eluded Gitanjali. The locals have demanded the district administration to provide immediate help to the distressed woman and her family.
