PNS

In a remarkable effort, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan team of Gopalpur cleaned the Pandab Ghat under Bahanaga block in Baleswar district which was littered with huge amounts of water pouches, thermo cool plates, Ghutkha and various snacks covers by around 80,000 revellers who congregated there for Tarpana and Shradha during Baruni Mela on April 5.

“We cleaned the Ghat the very next day of the Mela to prevent cows, goats and bullocks to eat polythene and to keep environment and water free of pollution,” said a member of the Abhiyan.

A large number of people led by Sarapanch Sisir Agasti took up a cleanliness drive for 15 hours from 6 am till 9 pm on April 6 and cleared the Ghat of wastes.

The Mela Committee thanked the Swachh Abibyan team.

“We are very thankful to the people of Gopalpur who have made cleaning environment as a hobby. The team has been continuously taking up cleanliness drive since the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was introduced on October 2, 2014,” said committee president Devendra Tripathy.

The team has been cleaning villages, fair grounds, temples and around Government offices every Sunday at least for two hours, informed Abhiyan convenor Sudarshan Mohapatra.

He too informed that they completed 78 th Swachh Bharat weekly program with cleaning of the Pandaba Ghat and worked for 191 hours. They have kept up transforming Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat mission into a reality in true sense, he said.
