A gang of unidentified miscreants on Saturday looted Rs 2 lakh from a Zilla Parishad member and two panchayat officials after hurling bombs on them while they were returning from a bank after withdrawing the money to distribute pension. According to reports, the incident occurred when Saranakula Zilla Parishad member Mahendra Pradhan, Magarbandha panchayat Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) Santosh Swain and Panchayat Executive Officer Santosh Sarangi were returning on a bike after withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from Saradhapur branch of the Andhra Bank.
The goons first intercepted their motorcycle and hurled bombs on them to scare them. later, they attacked the trio and fled the spot with the money, said the officials. Pradhan and Swain, who were injured in the attack, were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here. Police reached the spot and started an investigation into the case.
