Go to HC first: SC to petitioner against plots to judges

PNS

The Supreme Court on Friday declined to hear a public interest litigation ( PIl) against the allotment of plots to judges of the High Courts of Odisha and Gujarat.  A Bench of the court headed by Justice Hl Dattu asked the petitioner NGO CPIl to approach the respective High Courts first in this regard.

The petitioner’s advocate Prashant Bhushan urged the Apex Court to hear the matter, arguing its refusal would send the message that courts shy away from taking up contentious issues relating to judges. Bhushan pointed out that as many as 10 judges of the Odisha HC had applied for such plots under the Chief Minister’s discretionary quota. However, the Bench refused to hear the matter ahead of the concerned HCand disposed of the PIl.
