The college students desiring to obtain driving licences would be given the licences in the college itself. As per this decision of the State Government, the local RTO office has begun issuing driving licences to eligible students.
RTO staffs would be visiting colleges to issue leaner licences to students in the colleges after taking their driving test and other tests about the traffic rules. Each student would have to pay Rs 52 for learner licence which would valid for six months, and within this period they would have the permanent licences after paying another Rs 200.
The district RTO initiated the process at the Remuna College and licences were distributed to students on Wednesday. While 99 students were given the learner licences. RTO Amresh Patra, local MlA Gobinda Das, former MlA Pradipta Panda and college principal were present.
On Friday, the programme was conducted at the Simulia College with about 100 students being issued licences.
According to RTO Patra, about 70 per cent of the licences went to girl students. Patra said, “We are also mentioning the blood group of the students in the cards. We are educating the students about the safety factors like speed limits and headgear wearing, etc. We will hopefully cover all the colleges in the district in another two months.”
