A young woman was found hanging in a room of a private hostel at Nuasahi under the Nayapalli police station here on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Pragyan Priyadarshini Sahu (24), a native of the Sukinda area in Jajpur district. The reason behind her taking the extreme step was yet to be ascertained.
Reports said Sahu was preparing for competitive examinations. She was also studying M. Ed in a college in Angul.
In the evening, Sahu returned to the hostel and locked herself in her room. When she did not open the door late in the night, her hostel mates broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling of the room.
On receiving information, the Nayapalli police reached the spot, seized the body and began a probe into the incident.
“At around 7.30 pm, the hostel owner called us saying that Sahu is not opening the door. After breaking the door, we saw her hanging from the ceiling with a Dupatta. She had been staying in the hostel for the last one year,” said an inmate of the hostel.
