PNS

A girl has allegedly duped a youth and decamped with jewellery and cash on the pretext of marriage at Ralaba village in Ganjam district.

The victim Sishir Kumar Sarangi has lodged a complaint in connection with the cheating and sought intervention of the Brahmapur SP. Reportedly, the girl along with her family came to stay in the building where Sishir was staying on rent some four months back. Later, Sishir developed a relationship with the girl.

Subsequently, on the consent of both the families, the marriage date was fixed on April 28 and invitation cards were also printed. As the girl’s family was not financially weak, Sishir gave her Rs 1 lakh to make necessary arrangements for the marriage function.

Sishir said his family had purchased some gold ornaments for the marriage. On April 25, the girl’s family came and asked us to give some gold ornaments as they were planning to visit their relatives’ place for inviting them to the marriage.

“They had handed over the gold ornaments as everything was finalized for marriage. We waited for them till April 26 and failed to contact them over phone after that,” alleged Sishir.

Brahmapur ASP Aseem Panda, “The youth has lodged a complaint. We have registered a case and started investigation into the matter. Appropriate legal action will be taken after probe.”
