Rural and Urban Progressive Action (RUPA) president Biranchi Narayan Mohapatra alleged misappropriation of funds meant for assistance to the poor people who were affected by Phailin for construction of houses at Dankalpadu village under Chikiti Tehsil.
Chinnapanna Balaram Reddy, Bijaya Rana, Bingi Narayan, Binki Pareya, Chinnapamma Kammama, Ullasi Krishna Reddy, Bingee Purushottam, Ullasi Purushottam and Bingee Kamaraju Reddy were paid Phailin assistance of Rs3 lakh each along with the Patta of Government land by the Chikiti Tehsildar for construction of houses even though they were reportedly having their own pucca houses under Chikiti Tehsil, Mohapatra said.
He said that according to a Government rule, only poor, helpless, and homeless persons are entitled to the benefit. But the beneficiaries were selected with vested interest.Some of the most needy and homeless people of the Dankalpadu village who were severely affected by the cyclone, namely Gurubari Nayak, lakshmi Sahu and Daupadi Reddy, were deprived of any assistance, Mahapatra said and demanded that the role of the Tehsildar and the BDO be probed.Mohapatra informed that as many as 30 rich people of the village have got the house building aid under the ODRP scheme.
