Nikhil Odisha Gaon Sathi Sangh (NOGSS) members on Wednesday threatened that they would gherao Parliament in New Delhi on December 12 demanding permanent jobs for them.
According to Sangh general secretary Rabindra Sahu, they have appealed to other Gaon Sathis (Mates) from all over the country to cooperate with them. The mates would gather at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi and then stage their rally.
Sahu said the State Government didn’t pay heed to their demands including monthly salary of `10,000, extension of scope of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Odisha by increasing workdays from 100 to 150 and special projects for women. “As the State failed to pay attention to our demands, we have decided to gherao Parliament,” Sahu added.
After the rally of around 5,000 Gaon Sathis, they would hand over a memorandum to Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh urging for appropriate steps in the matter.
