Despite a number of meetings conducted by the district administration and other efforts carried out by the Health Department to contain dengue, the disease is spreading its tentacles in Ganjam. On Wednesday, 13 persons were detected with dengue positive, said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Manoj Kumar Behera. With this, the total number of dengue patients has reached to 99.

Of the 13 new patients, eight are from Girisola and one from Rambha. Four persons of Brahmapur have been detected with dengue positive after going outside the State, said the CDMO, adding that 68 persons from Girisola area have so far been affected by the mosquito-borne disease.

Though the families of the dengue death patients have been asked to furnish treatment related documents of the deceased people, the families are yet to do so. Hence, no clear data on dengue death in the district has been made available, said the CDMO.

“People residing both in rural and urban areas are advised to keep their surrounding and locality clean to check breeding of the dengue mosquitoes,” Behera added.

On the other hand, it is alleged that the sanitation facilities at various places in the district is in poor condition. If the district administration takes appropriate steps to improve the sanitation facilities, the number of dengue patients would be decreased to a large extent, said a local.
