Ganjam Covid situation belies Govt claims: BJP

BJP Ganjam district president Bibhuti Bhusan Jena has alleged that the State Government though beating the drum that Odisha has become a role model in the entire world in containing and controlling Covid-19 pandemic, but the ground reality in Ganjam belies the high sounding claims.

Odisha on Friday reported a record 561 new Covid-19 cases spread over 20 districts. Ganjam district alone reported the highest 283 cases which is shocking.

Notably, 75% of the total Covid-19 death cases are from Ganjam. This figure is a clear indication as to how the State Government is careful and competent to contain and control Covid-19 pandemic and prevent its spread to communities, Jena alleged.

Ganjam became a hotspot and epicentre of Covid-19 cases because there is no proper coordination between the district administration, police, healthcare officials and other prominent warriors on the one hand, and chaotic conditions in institutional quarantine centers coupled with rules flouted by the suspected patients, he said.

BJP suggested a slew of steps. The suggestions included immediately provide adequate security to Corona warriors and provide them sufficient PPE kits without any delay; open three full-fledged  Covid-19 Hospital in Brahmapur, Bhajanagar, and Chhatrapur, correct figures pertaining to corona patients ward/street wise, not to make thermal screening a farce, start serological test and vest the supervision and monitoring charge of Covid cases in the hands of an additional rank of officer among others.
