Sushant Dhalasamant, eldest among the mafia D-brothers, was on Monday found guilty on two counts by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) here in a case registered against him 19 years ago. In a case registered against him in 1999 at the Bidanasi police station of the city, Sushant was charged for the offence of extorting money from a businessman at gunpoint and threatened police by firing in the air from his revolver.

Judicial Magistrate Bandana Kar, convicting Sushant in the case, awarded him rigorous imprisonment (RI) of five years and three years along with a fine of Rs 25,000, respectively, on both the charges and ordered that both the sentences shall run concurrently. In the event of nonpayment of the fine, he shall undergo RI for another three months.

Sushant along with his younger brother Sushil were arrested by the Commissionerate police in January 2016 for allegedly murdering two of their own associates. Both are currently lodged in two separate jails while police entangled them in as many as 30 other cases subsequently. It may be mentioned that convicted in another case, Sushant was on the run before he was arrested in 2016.
