Unidentified miscreants vandalised a statue of Mahatma Gandhi located at the Kanekeswar High School in Adhanga Panchayat under Balikuda block in the district.
Headmaster Ajaya Kumar Kundu lodged an FIR in Balikuda police station on Wednesday.
The bust was disfigured with its ears, nose and eyes missing. Meanwhile, Adhanga villagers have demanded stringent action against the hooligans. The statue located inside the school was unsafe without a boundary wall.
Several times, the school education committee had appealed for construction of a boundary wall to protect the statue but it was not paid heed. Balikuda police station IIC Sarveswar Behera said a probe has been launched and the miscreants would be nabbed soon.
