Gajapati PRI members want Adivasis, Dalits behaved well

PNS

Condemning increasing incidences of atrocities against tribals and Dalits in Gajapati district, elected PRI members irrespective of party lines took out a protest rally from the Mohana block office to the police station here on Saturday.

Notably, Mohana block Chairperson Srimati Majhi had on January 7 lodged a complaint at the police station alleging that BDO Manoranjan Dash is passing casteist remarks and behaving inappropriately.

At the protest meeting, Majhi demanded that action be taken against the BDO and the police officer who has not yet registered her complaint yet.

Kui-Kondha Samiti’s Gajapati convenor Simon Majhi, in a memorandum to Chief Minister Nabeen Patnaik submitted through Collector Mansi Nimbhal, alleged that incidences of violence against tribals and Dalits were increasing. He said police inaction has only fuelled to such happenings.

In a number of cases, police have refused to file FIRs based on the complaints of SC/SC victims, he alleged further.

He urged the Chief Minister to direct police officers to treat Adivasis and Dalits cordiality whenever they come to them with grievances.
