Gajapati poor fail to avail health insurance

PNS

The National Health Insurance Scheme of the Union Government seems to have missed the track in Gajapati district.

Although the scheme provides `30,000 per a year to a BPl family for treatment in designated Government or private hospitals, yet many poor people are not getting the service due to lack of proper Government panning.

As the State Government is not taking any awareness work regarding the scheme, so the insurance companies and authorities of the hospitals are exploiting the common people. Even after having the insurance cards, people of several blocks of Parlakhemundi are not getting the opportunity of free treatment, complained scores of card holders here.

Some of the patients also are not being informed how much money they are entitled to get as insurance after treatment. Besides, there is no board on rate chart for the treatment in the hospitals, they added.

Due to negligence by the authorities, many people are not getting the insurance facility, while many BPl families are not renewing their card.

The beneficiaries alleged that in spite of repeated appeals to the authorities, the facilities under the health scheme still elude the poor mass.
