Hundreds of members, including women, of the Hospital Banchao Andolan (HBA) took to the streets in Bargarh town on Wednesday pressing for functioning of a full–fledged Community Health Centre (CHC) at the old District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) building.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced a setting of a full-fledged CHC on demands of the local residents. The CHC at present does not have adequate strength of doctors, nurses, health workers and the required equipments, the HBA members said. The agitators went in a procession from the DHH building to the Bargarh Collector holding banners and shouting slogans. The agitators said healthcare in the town has been severely affected after the DHH was shifted to its new campus at Tukurla, about 10 km from here. From that day the town residents are facing a lot of difficulties due to it. They have demanded the Chief Minister to intervene and ensure adequate staffs and other equipment for the CHC. Among others, HBA’s Bhabani Sahu, Anitab Patra, Ramesh Pati Pabitra Dehuri, Basamati Banchhor and Meriyam Barla were present.
