A woman was booked here on Sunday for allegedly betraying her friend by selling her to youths who deserted her after raping her in a room in Bhubaneswar for 70 days.
The case came to light after the girl lodged a police complaint at the Rajnagar police station. The Rajnagar Police has started a manhunt to nab the woman who had betrayed her.
According to reports, a 20-year-old woman of Mahulia panchayat was in love with a youth of Kandira panchayat. As she decided to elope with her lover, she had sought the help of her friend Mamata (pseudonym) of Mahulia panchayat.
As planned, Mamata called her friend at about 2 am on February 8 to come out of her house. As the woman came out of her house, the two youths, wearing helmets, took her on a bike. However, the woman, to her utter shock, came to know that none of these two youths was her lover after they took out their helmet near a bridge at Rajnagar.
As the woman requested the youths to leave her, they said she has been sold out to them at Rs30,000 by her friend to whom they have given them a mobile phone also. They also threatened the woman to kill her and throw into the river if she refused to accompany them. The two youths later took the woman to Bhubaneswar where they confined her to a room where she was repeatedly raped by a youth for 70 days.
As the woman later became pregnant, she was taken to Cuttack by the two youths where they left her at Badambadi bus stand on April 20. After reaching her house, the woman lodged a complaint with the Rajnagar police in the evening on April 25.Police registered cases under Section 365, 376, 109 and 34 of IPC. Though the victim in her complaint has named one Bichitra Rout of Ostia village under Rajnagar police station, she has not been able to identify the other youth.
