To mark the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, the Freethought Party of India (FPI) organised a seminar here on Thursday where speakers deliberated on the topic ‘Annihilation of Caste System Depends on Removal of Religious Notions: With the Exit of the Caste System, Caste-based Reservation will have its Exist from the Soil of India’.
Retired bureaucrat Kalyan Ray inaugurated the seminar and said Dr Ambedkar was indeed a refined nationalist and secularist of India even though he had started his public career as a liberator of the depressed classes or the untouchables of the Hindu society.
Elaborating on the ways of removing caste system, party general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire said mindset of people would be changed over a period of 25 years if all the Indian boys and girls would have easy access to English medium schools.
“Quality education given to one and all will surely help people to be broad-minded and to be adherents of liberty, equality and human dignity. With this, there will be no necessity for any reservation anywhere in the country,” he said.
Party president Dr Bijayananda Kar said, “We must get rid of both the caste system and blind belief by popularizing the thoughts and ideas of BR Ambedkar”.
On the occasion, the FPI launched a scholarship in the name of Dr Ambedkar ‘Caste-Creed-Annihilating Ambedkar Scholarship’ for meritorious Dalit students. Among others, ex-MlA Sarat Chandra Mishra, AMOFOI treasurer Swapna Bijayini and FPI vice-president Harish Chandra Kar were present.
