FPI calls for end of caste system

PNS

The Freethought Party of India and the AMOFOI held the 128th birthday of Dr BR Ambedkar by organising a priest-less and dowry-less marriage here on Saturday.

FPI members stressed that the caste system can be annihilated only when there would be no discrimination in marrying into Dalit families by upper-caste youths. The seminar was presided over by FPI president Dr Bijayananda Kar.

FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire threw light on the reformist agenda that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had presented in his book: “Annihilation of Caste” way back in 1936. He said, “To stamp out the caste system, love marriage should be encouraged through a national policy with a quality English medium schooling system.”

Kar appreciated an inter-caste marriage held between Ranushree Mohanty and Ashok Kumar Behera, both from the Kankadahada area of Dhenkanal district.

Among others, AMOFOI co-founder Swapana Bijayini paid rich tributes to Dr BR Ambekar and thanked the couple.
