In a heartrending incident, four persons died of suffocation in an under-construction septic tank at Mathalput village near Damanjodi in Koraput district.
According to reports, one Raju Khara had engaged some labourers in the construction of a septic tank in his backyard.
While Raju was inside the septic tank, the shuttering collapsed over him and he could not come out. Following this, labourer Jirna Bag went in to rescue Raju and also could not emerge. The other two labourers Balaram Mohanty and Bina Bhadra also jumped into the tank to rescue the trapped ones.
Fire officials rescued the trapped people in conscious states. The victims were rushed to the Mathalput Community Health Centre (CHC), where one died. Then the three others were shifted to the Nalco Hospital, where they also died.
