The Fakir Mohan Junior College is crippled by shortage of staffs and infrastructure. Although it is one of the most reputed colleges of the State, ever since it was separated from the Plus III degree college 19 years back, it has been struggling with minimum infrastructure and deficient manpower.
The college does not have its own independent campus while it operates from the old FM Degree College establishment. Besides, it lacks toilet, canteen facility etc, for the students. More so, the other problem it encounters during rainy season is waterlogging inside the campus.
The current college strength is 2,400 out of which 1,400 are girls. The college functions with 15 departments and 20 sections. And, while the sanctioned strength of the teaching staff is 40, there are only 19 teachers, including 15 women teachers.
Sources said since the post of demonstrator is lying vacant for over one year, the practical classes for the students are hampered. Similarly, the posts of junior and senior clerks are lying vacant for years. Besides, there is no security guard for the college.
The college sources said that several classes for the students are cancelled owing non availability of rooms and lecturers.
Principal Minati Sethi besides stating that the college is plagued by several difficulties, said despite her
appraisal to the higher authorities, no remedial steps have been taken.
“Although the college has been separated from the plus three wing in the year 2001 yet till date it doesn’t have the autonomy to run on its own and for each and every thing, it has to depend on the Plus III administration. The basic difficulties are not having adequate class rooms and teaching staff. We have been apprising to the authorities from time to time about the matter, yet in vain,” said Sethi.
