A major fire broke out at a parade ground at Udit Nagar here on Thursday after a huge stack of PVC pipes caught fire. However, no casualty or injury was reported in the mishap.
Soon after the fire broke out, five firefighting teams were pressed into service. It took them around two hours to douse the flames. Pipes worth Rs 10 lakh were gutted. However, pipes worth Rs 30 lakh were saved.
Though the cause behind the fire was yet to be ascertained, involvement of some anti-socials was suspected behind the mishap.
Receiving information, Rourkela SP K Siva Subramani and RMC Commissioner Dibyajyoti Parida and other officials reached the spot to take stock.
