Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Friday issued a direction to conduct an enquiry into the fire accident occurred in the 13-bed central ICU of the SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack on Thursday night.
Nayak said the department would take elaborate precautionary measures for preventing such fire accidents in the future due to short circuit. “Stringent action will be taken against the persons responsible for the accident,” said the Minister.
According to reports, 13 patients were in the ICU when the fire spread in the ICU. Ten of them were under life support equipment of ventilator.
“After the incident, all the patients were shifted to safer places and adequate steps were taken to ensure that the conditions of the patients do not deteriorate,” said Hospital Emergency Officer BN Moharana.
He further informed that normalcy was restored by Friday afternoon and the patients have been shifted back to the ICU in the evening.
