BJP MlA Dilip Ray on Sunday demanded that the State Government fill up all 10,534 vacant posts of different categories in the police department soon.
“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has informed the State Assembly that the police department has a total of 66,119 sanctioned posts of different categories from the Constable level to the DG post and, of these, 10,543 posts are lying vacant. These need to be filled up at the earliest in view of a breakdown in the law and order situation in the State,” Ray demanded in a statement.
Ray said while he wanted to know the vacancy position in detail and the numbers of crimes like rape, attempt to rape, kidnapping, dowry torture and dowry-related deaths registered in the State during the last five years, the Chief Minister didn’t respond to these questions.
The Chief Minister has only stated that required steps were being taken to fill up the vacant posts through recruitments and promotions. However, he didn’t give any time limit for filling up the vacant posts, Ray informed.
The Rourkela MlA alleged that the Government has not filled up over 2 lakh posts during the last 16 years by imposing a restriction on recruitment and promotion.
“While on one side, the Chief Minister is making tall promises of creating employments, on the other side his Government is repealing existing posts. It is not understood why he is reviewing employment aspects of various departments every month. He should fill up all the vacant posts lying in his departments within a month’s time,” Ray demanded.
Ray too demanded that the Government create more posts in the police department in view of rise in population and crimes.
