PNS

Due to faulty injections, a youth here will lose fingers of his right hand, which need to be amputated through an operation.

If sources are to be believed, Sanotsh Kumar Mallick (28), who is the father of three children, of Nagaripada village under Sanaodhanga gram panchayat in Garadapur block, is a tractor driver.

While he was driving tractor on a day, his abdomen started aching. As a result, he went to the Korua –based PHC. But as the doctor was absent, he later went to a private dental hospital for treatment with the help of locals. The dentist allegedly administered a couple of injections to Santosh’s right hand vein.

Soon, his right hand palm started swelling and he suffered pain. But, the dentist informed Santosh that the pain would be relieved after some hours. But his hand swelling did not stop.

A couple of days later, the right hand fingers became inactive and the skin started decaying from his hand. The family members took Santosh to the District Headquarters Hospital at Kendrapada and subsequently to SCB MCH, Cuttack in a critical condition.

At SCB, Santosh underwent treatment for some days. The doctor advised the family members to amputate Santosh’s fingers through surgery as the lone way to save him. The doctor told that due to faulty injections in vein, Santosh was facing the situation.

But `50,000 will be needed for the surgery. Santosh’s family members being poor, it has been a rude shock for them.

“We have spent all our money for Santosh’s treatment so far and I do not know from where I would get the money,” said Santosh’s father Hemant Mallick.

Meanwhile, Hemant on February 15 lodged an FIR against the doctor at Patkura police station, who allegedly misbehaved with him when he went to ask why he administered faulty injections.

When contacted, Kendrapada SDPO Kedarnath Sahu stated that police have received an FIR in this regard and an inquiry was on.
