Protesting the State Government’s apathy, the Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) would hold a massive agitation here on December 14, informed NKS State coordinator Akshaya Kumar on Friday after its executive body meeting.
Akshaya Kumar presided over the meeting while NKS adviser Soumya Ranjan Patnaik gave some proposals.
NKS State co-coordinator Seshadev Nanda gave a proposal to strengthen the organisation from western Odisha to north and south Odisha. NKS State committee member Surendra Moharana seconded the proposal. The members demanded irrigation facilities and godown and cold stores, etc.
Though many farmers’ organisations are staging dharnas peacefully, the State Government is not fulfilling the demands, rued Akshaya Kumar. “If the Government does not provide support of Rs 21,600 crore for 36 lakh farmers, we will stage a stir on December 14. We will launch a ‘do or die’ movement and gherao the State Government functionaries,” he added.
Basudev Sahoo, Basant Parida, Jeevan Satapthy, Sudhakar Parida and Nityananda Panda were present, among others.
