Trade union and left party leaders under the banner of the Odisha Krushak Sabha held a demonstration near Raj Bhavan and demanded immediate withdrawal of land Acquisition and Mines Ordinances promulgated by the Union Government. They alleged that corporate houses and rich people would be benefitted by these Ordinances. Alleging that the Narendra Modi Government has promulgated the Ordinances bypassing parliamentary procedures, the protestors slammed the move as subversion and weakening of institutions.
“While the land Acquisition Ordinance will squeeze the land rights of tribals, farmers, dalit people and primitive tribals groups, the Mines Ordinance will pave the way for traders and big companies to loot natural resources of the country,” said Odisha Krushak Sabha president Abhiram Behera. The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking his intervention in the matter.
