Farmers' memo to Sub-Collector demands action

PNS

Members of the Krushak Manch of Rangailunda block on Monday submitted a five-point charter of demands to the Brahmapur Sub-Collector.

The demands include immediate opening of Mandi and procurement of paddy from the farmers, issue of token to farmer in advance, relaxation of FAQ principles, accuracy in weighing the paddy and payment of collection price to farmers within 24 hours of paddy collection.

“Due to non-operation of Mandi, the farmers are unable to sale the paddy and become the victim of Government apathy. Barring one or two mandis, most of them are currently lying defunct putting irreparable loss and causing mental tension to farmers,” the memorandum pointed out.

“The nexus between the Supply Department, mill owners and mandi supervisors needs to be probed,” stated further the memorandum. The farmers threatened that they would resort to agitation if the demands are not met at the earliest. A delegation led by Gangadhar Satapathy and Debaraj Mohanty among many met the Sub-Collector.
