The Milita Odisha Krushak Sangathan has begun an indefinite demonstration before the district Collectorate here from Wednesday demanding immediate suspension of the Kanas tehsildar and release of the farmer leaders arrested by the Government from jail.
The Sangathan alleged that due to the anti-farmer and anti-people tehslidar posted in Kanas block, the farmers are suffering miserably. Though the Phailin cyclone occurred long time ago and the compensation amount has been deposited in the bank, due to the concerned officials’ negligence the farmers have been deprived of Government help.
The tehsildar is utilising the interest of the compensation money deposited in the bank in unimportant works and allegedly greasing his palms. They demanded the interest money to be utilised for ensuring the security of crops of farmers and stray cattle. Besides, they alleged that the tehsidar is harassing them in providing legal heir certificate and registration of landed property, for which the farmers are contemplating suicide, the Sangathan said.
