Farmers’ issues stall House on 1st day

PNS

The first day of the 14th session (Winter) of the 15th Odisha Legislative Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes over farmers’ issues and was adjourned till Saturday.

At the beginning of the Question Hour after obituary references, Congress and BJP members rushed into the Well of the House and kept shouting slogans like “Chashi Maran Niti Chaliba Nahin” (anti-farmer policy not to be tolerated). Unable to run the proceedings Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat adjourned the House for one hour at 11.14 am till 12.14 pm. When the House reassembled, Congress members rushed into the Well of the House again and resumed shouting slogans. BJP members were standing at their seats.

Amidst sloganeering, the Speaker announced about resignation of Congress MLA Krusha Chandra Sagaria and joining of Samata Kanti Party MLA George Tirkey in the Congress. He then adjourned the House till Saturday.

The House Committee’s report on Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s anti-Odisha remarks and breach of privilege of the House couldn’t be tabled.
