A 32-year-old woman, who was a mother of three girl children, was allegedly killed and later charred by her semi-insane husband at Balabhadrapur village under Jamdhar gram panchayat of Kendrapada Sadar police limit on Sunday night.
IIC Tapas Pradhan said one Satyanada Parida, the brother of deceased woman Sanjukta Behera, on Monday morning lodged an FIR in which he stated that his sister was allegedly strangulated by her husband Umesh Kumar Behera after an altercation erupted between them. In order to save his skin and colour it as a suicidal case, Umesh poured kerosene on the body and later set it on fire.
Parida alleged that most of the time the couple picked up quarrel as Umesh was torturing his sister constantly. Even, several times, Umesh was forcing his sister to agree to a divorce as he wanted a second marriage.
IIC Pradhan said police have seized the body and sent it for autopsy to the District Headquarters Hospital on Monday. Besides, the police have registered a case against the accused and arrested him. Notably, Umesh is a native of Chaulatoli village under Badachana block of Jajpur district. For last few years, he was staying in his father-in-laws’ village.
