The Commissionerate police Special Squad unearthed a fake soft drinks manufacturing unit at the Mancheswar Industrial Estate in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Police detained the owner of the factory for questioning. On a tipoff, the police team raided the unit manufacturing soft drinks resembling the names of reputed soft drink brands.
Huge stock of adulterated soft drink bottles, wrappers, bottles, huge quantity of raw materials and many cartoons of soft drinks were seized from the unit.
Reportedly, the unit was operating without any license and trademarks for the last couple of years.The factory was selling the adulterated products basically in the rural areas, where consumer awareness is low. “The manufacturing unit was found preparing very low quality food products in unhygienic conditions. We are examining the entire process of procurement and preparation of the soft drinks. Besides, samples of the seized products have been sent for tests,” said a food safety official.
