Police on Saturday conducted a raid and unearthed a fake cement manufacturing unit operating from a godown at Golagaon village under the Kalinganagar police station in Jajpur district.
Four persons, including the supervisor of the factory, were arrested in this connection. The police seized 200 cement bags of the Ultratech brand loaded in a truck near the spot.
Acting on a tipoff, police conducted a raid on the unit when the workers were loading the cement bags in a truck to deliver the consignment, said Kalinganagar PS IIC Priyabrat Rout.
Cement of many reputed brands was being mixed with damaged cement, other raw materials and repackaged with logos of reputed cement companies and sold in the market at cheap prices.
Police have also seized the machines used for the mixing of the cement and packaging of bags. The buyers were happy to get the cement at lesser rates, said Rout.
“During investigation, we came to know that the godown was previously used as a rice mill. But the rice mill has been closed for the last two years. We are interrogating the accused. More persons will be arrested in this case soon,” added the IIC.
