The State Government has asked the district Collectors to ensure that each school in their respective jurisdiction gets a functional toilet within a month’s time.
A notification issued to this effect by the School and Mass Education Department has also asked the District Education Officers and District Conveners of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) to identify schools having no toilet facilities and verify the provision of drinking water supply and toilet facilities in all schools. Besides, the department has also directed these officials to make existing toilets usable and make provisions for their repair and maintenance.
While the toilets would be set up with funds available from the two schemes, the Siksha Adhikar, SSA and Rashtriya Madhyamika Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the drinking water will be supplied under the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) programme. In view of the launching of State-wide sanitation programme in all schools on September 1, the dept has directed the above officials to finish the repair work of existing toilets and installation of new toilets before the scheduled date.
