Ensure a safe and secure environment for citizens, provide transparent and pro-people governance, protect the rights of women, children, weaker and vulnerable sections of the society, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged police officers while attending the valedictory function of the three-day Senior Police Officers’ Conference here on Saturday.

Patnaik appreciated the efforts of the Odisha police for smooth management of the Men’s Hockey World Cup held at the Kalinga Stadium here in 2018.  The Chief Minister said his Government is continuously striving to provide a better working environment to the police force and their welfare. He congratulated the noble initiative taken by the police in conducting State-wide social awareness through the “Paree” campaign against sexual abuse of children.

He also expressed his satisfaction over the opening of counselling centres in 19 districts to deal with problems of women and children. He asked the SPs of other districts to open such centres. The CM also inaugurated a mobile application “ARAKHI” for Investigating Officers.

Patnaik commended DGP Dr RP Sharma and his team for the outstanding performance of the Odisha police during 2018 in maintenance of law and order, disaster management, countering Left Wing extremism effectively and in preventing and detecting crime.
