End authoritarian rule: Congress urges Governor

PNS

The Congress on Wednesday urged Governor SC Jamir to intervene in ‘the State Government’ authoritarian attitude’ in order to protect the democratic rights of people.A team of party leaders led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan submitted a memorandum to the Governor in this regard.

“Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assumed office on a mandate to provide transparent and democratic governance to the people. But, Patnaik and his Government have been bywords for authoritarianism, misgovernance and corruption. The rate of open unemployment is the highest in Odisha among the low-income States. Nearly 50 lakh youths are unemployed in the State,” the memorandum said.

Alleging that police have charged false cases against some Congress youth leaders, who had staged a democratic protest in front of the Chief Minister’s car on February 18, the memorandum said, “We seek your kind intervention to protect the interest of the youth and citizens. We also demand detailed inquire of the incident through independent agencies.”
