In a crackdown against illegal drug trade, the Commissionerate police on Saturday demolished the encroachments of a drug peddler couple, who had been arrested earlier in the capital city.
As per reports, Dilip Baral and his wife Purnima were arrested by the Nayapalli police earlier on charges of peddling narcotics.
On the day, a police team raided the Adivasi village of Saliasahi slum, from where they carried out their narcotic trade and razed to ground their shops and residences constructed on Government land with the help of JCBs.
"We have arrested a man and his wife acting upon a complaint that they had encroached upon Government land in the middle of the road. They were trading brown sugar from the shop. As they were involved in such illegal works and operating from Government land, they were evicted," a police official said.
Further, Satpathy added, "If we receive a complaint about any person's suspected involvement in any illegal activity encroaching Government land, we will take stringent action against them," added the official.
